Vale do Jequitinhonha (Inglês)
In the North Side of Minas Gerais, the Jequitinhonha Valley has one of the lowest HDI in the world. Fortunately, they have a treasure that helps lots of families to overcome the local problems: the ceramic. Traditionally made by women, the Valley's ceramic has a unique aesthetic and is completely made within the family. The pieces, such as jugs, water filters, utilities and dolls - a reference of the Valley's handicraft - gain shape in the hands of talented ceramists. The colors are natural and the shapes are a result of mixing different tonalities of clay, like red, pink and white. Among the most famous artisans are Anísia, Rita, Zezinha and Maria do Carmo.
